Before the start of my 2011 wedding season I sought out an expert in lighting to spend one on one time with me and answer all my burning questions.
Highly recommended was the award winning photographer and provider of his own national U.S Lighting Workshop Tour – Rick Friedman. His work has been featured in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News, The New York Times, USA Today, The Guardian, I gave Rick a call and was so excited that he agreed to come out to Lenox to meet with me 1:1 for the day.
Rick and his assistant drove out from Boston and for 8 hours without break, we talked about lighting including in studio and on location. I was getting the knowledge of 2 amazing photographers all to myself and I absorbed it like a sponge. To take advantage of the fact that they came to me, I drove them to Cranwell Resort and Spa where I frequently shoot weddings so we could discuss some of the changing lighting scenarios of a typical wedding. This includes the bright sun during outside ceremonies, the open shade provided by the awning covered terrace during cocktail hour and of course the need for flash as nighttime sets in on the ballroom reception.
Rick and Lauren were amazing and gave me so much information that I had an information overload headache. This was a good thing! Rick has provided me with follow up assistance ever since and now feels like a friend.
I’d highly recommend Rick’s teaching to anyone as well as his Lighting Workshop. Here’s a picture snapped while being silly (and my goodness do I look tired!) but every post looks better with a picture so I’m putting it in anyway.
