Each year, Doug and Josh ask me to photograph them at the start of their year and share their joy along with their dogs, Consuela and Paquita. When we met again this year, the tone of the session was bittersweet.
In the days before the session, they said goodbye to Consuela.
Anyone who has loved a dog understands this kind of loss is hard. There is an absence of a special presence who had become woven into daily lives and routines. The companionship that they provide feels like love in its purest form; No words spoken, just expressed love and adoration.
Photographs take on deeper meaning in times like this. They preserve the connection, personality, and love captured in ordinary, beautiful moments.
There is never a perfect time to document life with the ones we love, especially our animals. Sessions like this are a gentle reminder of why it matters.
This post is my own personal quiet tribute to the love that Doug and Josh shared with Consuela and my gratitude that they shared her sweetness with me.
xo,
Tricia
